Job Description

Embark on an exciting career journey with A&E Agency in the North West of England, situated just to the south of the magnificent Lake District National Park. We are actively seeking a committed Consultant Physician with a strong passion for Geriatric Medicine to join our team in a full-time permanent role, where your contributions will be highly valued.

The Consultant Physician with an interest in Geriatric Medicine is expected to possess relevant experience and a strong inclination toward general internal medicine and geriatrics. The Care of the Elderly (CotE) team comprises three substantive CotE/Stroke physicians based on the 36-bed elderly care/general medicine/stroke ward. They also provide assessments for front door Frailty and stroke cases, orthopaedics, and the 20-bed community ward. These consultants receive support from three Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) in Frailty, a Nurse Consultant, and five ACPs in stroke, front door, and stroke therapy support. The post holder will be required to share in the mentioned duties to facilitate the expansion of services, including the implementation of a Virtual ward to accommodate the increasing number of elderly patients visiting the trust.

The Trust houses an active Day Hospital where daily clinics, including Falls, TIA, and General Medicine, are conducted. On-call duties will follow a 1 in 11 rotation, with support from a team of junior staff. The on-call team comprises one ST3+ level doctor, two FY1s, one or two FY2/IMT level doctors, and an on-call consultant. This team manages approximately 20 medical admissions per day.

Essential requirements for the role include:

  • Full GMC Registration with the General Medical Council MRCP or an equivalent qualification with a license to practice
  • Completion of CCT in general internal medicine (GIM) and geriatric medicine, or within six months of finishing training at the time of the interview
  • A broad understanding of medical diseases and their management
  • A grasp of clinical governance principles
  • Dedication to teaching undergraduates, Foundation Year 1 & 2 doctors, and Allied Health Professionals
  • The ability to supervise junior doctors in planning and executing research and audit projects
