Job Description

Are you a doctor who wants to take time to focus on your priorities this year?

Would you like to gain A&E experience at one of the largest private hospitals in the Mediterranean?

Do you want to wake up on your days off and go for a walk along the beach, explore the historic sites or enjoy a coffee in the sunshine?

If you answered yes to any of the above, we have an exciting vacancy for doctors who want to explore alternative job opportunities.

We are looking for 2-3 doctors to be based in the Mediterranean working 40-hour contracts as part of a regular roster. Annual leave and vacation time will be permitted. This job allows doctors who are interested in emergency medicine to gain skills and knowledge from an A&E department overseas within a private hospital. It also offers the opportunity to work a 40-hour contract which gives you more time than a traditional A&E placement to focus on your personal or career goals. This could be prioritising time for your own business, studying for exams or focusing on your health and wellbeing.

What does the job involve?

The role is for an emergency medicine specialist and will include clinical services including:

  • Urgent medical services, such as resuscitation, stabilisation, assessment and diagnosis, treatment and referral, as necessary.
  • Assessing the urgency and severity of presenting problems through taking a patient medical history, examination and investigation, as necessary.
  • Recommending and, where appropriate, undertaking treatment options and carrying out/referring for appropriate interventions and procedures, including but not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practice procedures, counselling, psychological interventions, advising and education.
  • Referring for diagnostic, therapeutic and support services, as required.
  • Supporting the resident medical officer (RMO) covering hospital wards.

Is this job for you?

  • Registration with the local medical council is mandatory and may take 2-3 months – this process will be easier for UK and EU citizens and would not be expected until a successful interview and job offer has been accepted.
  • Work permits will be needed for all non-EU nationals including UK citizens.
  • MRCEM/MRCP examinations
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

If you are passionate about emergency medicine and have mentorship skills to contribute to the development of the RMO team but are missing some of the criteria above, please email me and we will discuss your situation and see if the hiring manager would be able to review your skills and experience.

Living in the Mediterranean

According to online resources, the cost of living on this island is 2.10% lower than in the United Kingdom with rent on average 8.06% lower. The average price of a coffee is €2.27, and a bottle of water is €1.21. The average price for a monthly ticket on public transport is €26 or car hire is readily available but would add up throughout your contract so it would be more cost-efficient to buy a second-hand car. Rent you can expect to pay €650-€850 a month for a one-bedroom flat depending on your proximity to the city centre.

Aside from the cultural benefits of living and working in the Mediterranean, this job allows flexibility whatever that looks like for you whilst still keeping you’re A&E skills and knowledge through working as an Emergency Medicine specialist.

At the A&E Agency, we understand the importance of offering doctors a vast portfolio of job opportunities within the NHS and alternative careers outside of the traditional training routes. We currently have exciting contracts for clinical research, cruise ships, private hospitals in the UK and Mediterranean. If you want to discuss your requirements in more depth so we can send you a bespoke list of jobs to suit your availability and goals, please email emmadooley@accident-emergency.co.uk or apply now to this job and a member of the division will be in touch and happy to support you.
