Are you a histopathology consultant looking to join an experienced, cohesive and supportive team of consultants?

We are seeking a friendly and dynamic doctor to work in an NHS Trust's purpose built facility. We are delighted to provide a fantastic opportunity to work within an NHS teaching hospital with a comprehensive range of acute hospital and specialist healthcare services, caring for a population for 800,000 people. 

The Role & Organisation

The NHS Trust runs eight sites, but you will be based in one. You will be working in a newly formed  pathology network that has been formed from two services operated by the organisation. It is a clinically led service that incorporates a range of laboratory disciplines across 4 acute hospital sites and covers numerous community, specialist and primary care facilities across a wide geography.

They operate a subspecialist system of reporting serviced by teams of consultants. We invite applications from newly qualified consultants and those in their mid careers looking for the opportunity to develop their subspecialist interests in more than one area. All areas of expertise will be considered. We can accommodate a combination of specialist interests in gynaecological, gastrointestinal (including pancreas), skin, head and neck, breast and urological pathology and non-gynaecological cytology. 

The department has successfully introduced an in-house molecular testing service to support lung cancer, colorectal cancer and melanoma diagnostic pathways and have a strong dissection team supporting all of the specialties. They are looking to implement and deploy digital pathology in the very near future. The department supports working from home and hopes to offer even greater flexibility in the future.

Responsibilities

You will be expected to...

  • Ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Lead Clinician.
  • Be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
  • Participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training programme.
  • On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s Corporate Induction.
  • Facilitate research and ensure that all IP rights of the Trust are observed where applicable.
  • Responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.
  • Fully participate in the Consultant Peer Support Scheme and ensure personal attendance, when invited, at the Consultant Development Programme during your first year in post.

Location

The town is a vibrant seaside resort, surrounded by stunning scenery and glorious beaches, on the East Coast of Yorkshire, set in the beautiful countryside. This seaside town is excellent for families, with plenty of activities for all ages. Due to the area's popularity as a tourist destination, there are several indoor and outdoor entertainment venues as well as good outdoor athletic facilities.

There are many locations right outside your home that offer a spot to walk or ride a bike away from the crowds. On the east coast, Yorkshire's shoreline likely offers the best surfing, windsurfing, yachting, dinghy sailing, and scenery. The town also offers good transport links to nearby cities (Manchester, Leeds, Hull, Middlesbrough etc.).

What Do You Need To Apply?

  • A medical qualification registered with the GMC (i.e., FRCPath or equivalent) and have CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining this. The posts are suitable for applicants wishing to work full-time or part-time. 
  • A license to practice with the General Medical Council and to comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor.
